Abstract

Inert gas brazing and soldering of hybrid materials of aluminium and steel has special requirements for the selected process conditions. Due to the formation of oxide films on metals, it is necessary to activate the surface in order to enable the solder to be wetted. In this connection, fluxes are applied in order to dissolve surface oxides in molten brazes or solders. As part of the research, a procedure was developed, where the surface activation results from mixing reactive gases with the inert gas, allowing avoidance of the use of commercial fluxes.
