PIs set the scientific direction, secure external funding and design research questions and methods. They lead and supervise teams (PhD candidates, postdocs, technical staff), coordinate collaborations and manage budgets and resources. PIs ensure quality and compliance with ethical and legal standards and disseminate results through publications, teaching and knowledge transfer, while fostering mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration and the sustainable development of their research programmes.
