Scientific Employee in the field of “Optical detection of (bio-)mechanical parameters via Brillouin scattering” open

The Hannover Centre for Optical Technologies (HOT) invites applications for the position of a Scientific Employee (m/f/d) in the field of “Optical detection of (bio-)mechanical parameters via Brillouin scattering” (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 75 %) to start on 01.01.2022. The position is initially limited to 24 month with the possibility of extension. The scope of the job corresponds to 75 % of the collectively agreed working hours. The opportunity to do a doctorate is given and encouraged.  

Responsibilities

The advertised position is attached to the newly established “Phytophotonics” professorship and is supervised jointly with the “Applied Photonics” working group at HOT.

The position deals with the research of Brillouin scattering as a metrology for the characterization of mechanical parameters of 3D-printed optics. The planned research tasks are embedded in the Cluster of Excellence PhoenixD and complete the possibilities for a comprehensive characterization of the manufactured optics in the research area “Optical Metrology”.

In addition, participation in the acquisition of third-party funds as well as the support of courses will be part of the responsibilities.

Employment requirements

The prerequisite for employment is a successfully completed academic university degree (master's) in physics, optical technologies, engineering or a related subject. In-depth knowledge in at least one of the following areas: Brillouin and/or Raman spectroscopy, additive manufacturing of optical structures, optical measurement technology and sensor technology. Experience in applied optics and photonics as well as good programming skills are an advantage.

We expect a high level of commitment and motivation, enjoyment of independent, experimental and theoretical work, good written and spoken English (knowledge of German is an advantage) and good communication skills.
