Open Position for an IT Coordinator (m/f/d) (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100 %)

For the structural and scientific IT coordination of the new research building OPTICUM as well as for the introduction and further development of the research data management of the Leibniz School of Optics & Photonics (LSO) and the Cluster of Excellence PhoenixD, the Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) invites applications for the position of a IT Coordinator (m/f/d) (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100 %) to be started as soon as possible. The position is permanent.    

The OPTICUM (Optics University Center and Campus) is a research building financed with 54.2 million euros by the federal government and the state of Lower Saxony. In the future, about 120 researchers from the fields of physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, computer sciences and chemistry will work together under one roof at the planned optics center in Hannover on the digitalization of optics and optics production.

The OPTICUM will be managed by the Leibniz School of Optics & Photonics, which was founded in spring 2020. It is closely linked to the Cluster of Excellence PhoenixD (Photonics, Optics, and Engineering - Innovation Across Disciplines) and has a faculty-like structure. The new research building will be built in the Hannover-Marienwerder Science Park. The planned four-floor OPTICUM will have a usable floor space of a app. 4,000 square meters. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2022. Completion is planned for 2026. Until the OPTICUM is in use, two buildings (1104 and 1105) on the main campus next to the Welfenschloss will be refurbished and made available to the LSO.


  • Coordination, conceptualization, planning, integration, support and regular adaptation based on new technologies and research results of the data infrastructure of the scientific (large-scale) equipment and laboratories in the buildings 1104, 1105 and OPTICUM in cooperation with the respective scientists responsible for the laboratory or the large-scale equipment
  • Research data management: Introduction and further development of a concept for access to and the (physical) handling of research data, if necessary its encryption and data protection; representation of the LSO and PhoenixD in the national initiatives NFDI4Ing and NFDI4Phys
  • Ordering, handling and installing scientific IT hardware and scientific software licenses in close coordination with Leibniz University IT Services (LUIS); supporting researchers in the use of computing time on mainframe computers
  • Representation of the LSO as Faculty Information Officer (FIO) in the relevant committees of Leibniz University; representation of the LSO in the introduction of a campus management SAP; contact person for the members of the LSO and PhoenixD regarding publication data in the Research Information System of LUH

Recruitment requirements

  • Completed relevant university studies and three years of practical experience
  • A completed scientific university degree in computer sciences, physics, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering with a strong affinity for information technologies is desirable
  • Knowledge of optics simulation or digital production technologies is an advantage
  • Experience in interdisciplinary teams; ability to work in a team and empathy
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Business fluent in German and English (written and spoken)
  • Willingness to travel
