Open Position for a PhD Student (m/f/d) in the field of Optical Sensing with Molecular Nanoswitch Materials

The Hannover Centre for Optical Technologies (HOT) invites applications for a PhD Student Position (m/f/d) in the field of Optical Sensing with Molecular Nanoswitch Materials (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 75 %) to start on December 01, 2021. The initial appointment will be for 2 years, with the possibility of an extension. The possibility for a PhD thesis is given and desired.    

Responsibilities

The advertised position deals with the development, implementation and validation of novel optical sensors based on molecular nanoswitch materials for a variety of integrated optical applications. The topic is part of an interdisciplinary project with partners from chemistry from Leibniz University Hannover. Close cooperation is necessary and guaranteed for successful implementation.

We offer a motivated, dynamic working atmosphere in a highly topical research field at the interface between optics, physics and chemistry.

Conditions of appointment

Requirement for the recruitment is a successfully completed university degree (Master) in physics, optical technologies, engineering or a related field. In-depth knowledge in at least one of the following areas: optical measurement and sensing, manufacturing and characterization of optical micro-/nanostructures, data analysis. Experience in general optics and photonics, optics simulation, measurement technology as well as good programming knowledge are advantageous.

We expect a high level of commitment and motivation, enjoyment of independent, experimental and theoretical work, good written and spoken German and English skills as well as good communication skills.
